Development Strategy

Spring 2002

  • Register Würzburg St Kilians Gaelic Football and Hurling Club as an official German Club(Verein). Adopt a Club Constitution.
  • Build up the total membership to at least more than twenty - of which hopefully more than half would be active playing members.
  • Generation of enough funds ( sponsorship, advertisements, grants etc ) to buy equipment / insurance and help with the running of the club.
  • Set up a Website informing readers about our club , the sports involved, and relevant links to other organisations, bodies etc.
  • Develop a library or database of material ( videos / publications / web-sites ) in both German and English that would be beneficial in explaining and educating non-Irish club members to the skills and rules of both Hurling and Football.
  • Seek out help and advice from the European GAA regarding their visions and strategies for the future.
  • Align ourselves with the local Irish Music & Cultural organisation so that we may avail of synergy benefits regarding the sourcing of potential members and co-operation within each activities.
  • Begin skills and fitness training for all interested members every weekend.

Summer / Autumn 2002

  • Continue with fund raising ( sponsorship, advertisements, grants etc ) and the purchasing of equipment.
  • Regular weekend training sessions or get-togethers for sporting and social activity.
  • Continue to coach and train newer members to the sports to improve basic skills
  • Organise that as many members as possible may travel together to Frankfurt or Aschaffenburg to watch All Ireland championship games throughout the summer.
  • If seven a side teams can be formed, then organise visits to teams around Germany and other European venues for friendly matches.
  • Travel to at least one major European GAA event either as a competing team or as spectators to establish ourselves and develop contacts with the organisation. Build up strong contact with the European GAA board and use them as our interface to Croke Park for administrative issues.
  • Organise an official end of season Bar-B-Que / Picnic event to mark the winding down of ‘on the field’ activities. Hopefully the event can be organised around an exhibition game and allow newer members to display their progression in basic skills.

Winter 2002

  • Organise non-sporting events for club members (eg. Table quizs, ski trips, etc...).
  • Hold AGM and review previous year activities and finances and suggest improvement for 2003.
  • Election of Club Officers for the upcoming year - 2003.
  • Draw up a rough timetable of activities and realistic goals for the upcoming year.

Long Term Goals

  • A healthy GAA club with a large enough Irish & non Irish membership to self perpetuate without depending totally on the founding members.
  • Establish a presence within the Erasmus organisation that transfers Irish third level students to Würzburg for semisters. This should help strengthen the club with new blood each year plus help these Irish students find their feet a little faster in their temporary German home.
  • Establish a legitimate Club promoting Irish Sports and Culture within the Unterfranken area of Baveria.
  • Yearly enrolment of new members at all levels of interest and skills.
  • Regular participation ( and hosting ) of events within a European GAA setting.
  • Participation within the European GAA at an administrative level.
