Greetings members ! At the moment we have much to celebrate at the club. July has been a busy month for us!Since the first of july the club has achieved official e.V. status. To celebrate this on the 8 of july the club held its first "Open day" followed by a Table Quiz.It proved a great success with in excess of 30 people in attendance. This took place in Duggans Irish pub in the Karmelitenstrasse,Wuerzburg .We had two Tv's displaying hurling and football matches, posters, pictures and memorabilia of gaelic games on show. For the quiz Jens(our treasurer and resident Web site Guru) was Quizmaster and Compere. The "backroom team" on the night was Eoghan, Matthew and JP.Our next planned Quiz will take place in Late August. Thanks to everybody who contributed to a great night........members, friends and colleagues. Many thanks to Duggans for allowing us to hold the quiz and here's to future success! On July 20th we had our first gaelic fotball match against Franfurt Sarsfields in Frankfurt . Our team consisted of Eoghan McGuire( ennistymon, Co. Clare) J.P. Mc Sherry( borrisoleigh, Co.Tipperary) Matthew Doyle (Tullow, Co. Carlow) Dave Knudson(Detroit, USA) Noel Loughnane( Beatha, Co. Galway) Ronan Slattery( Beatha, Co. Galway) Marcus Perkams( Bonn, Germany) Players who couln't make it to Frankfurt on saturday were Kalle Seifert, Juergen Knoepp, Jens Nothnagel and Olaf Koenig. An entertaining game played in ideal conditions ended on a scoreline of 4-10 to 4-08 in favour of Frankfurt. The Wuerzburg team played very well and considering it was our first real game. Congatulatios to Marcus and Dave on coming through their first football match- we hope your eye gets better soon Dave. Special praise also to our newest members Noel and Ronan from Beatha, Co Galway who gave outstanding performances.Well done to Matthew who took the unenviable job of Referee for the match! Many thanks to Frankfurt for a well organised day and to their sponsors O'Reilly's Pub for the after -match food and drink...."One summer evening drunk as hell, Isat there nearly lifeless" as Shane McGowan would say. It was definitely a green bucket day for chairman Eoghan! The next event for St Klians is the 6th round of the European league taking place in Munich on the 10th of August . This will be St Kilians first outing in European competition. Beir Bua agus beannacht! J.P.McSherry PRO St Kilians |
