St Kilians Haag PRO Report/ End of year report 2003
The Grand finale of the Kerrygold Gaelic Football League took place at the Haag rugby grounds on October 11th. 4 Kilians players made the trip to the Haag. JP "I love Bobby Ryan" McSherry, Owen "the gaffer" McGuire, Trevor "Fingers" Bradna and Tom "the poacher" Curry. We teamed up again with our NRW colleagues Paul "as such" Delahunty, Paul" that carpet looks cosy" Carr, Ken "Neuville" Clavin, Tom"Abudabi" Daly, Declan "Laoise" Dunne and Alistair "what the hell is GAA" McCarthy who were joined by supporters/mentors Siobhan Ward and Aisling Cooney.
The NRW/ Wuerzburg side was considerably weakened from the team we had in the Munich tournament. We lost all 4 games to Munich, Luxembourg, Den Haag B and Rennes.
We made 3 tournaments this year. We were middling enough in Luxembourg, played great in Munich and were unlucky not to get to the Semis. In the Haag we were disappointing, but the lads gave it their all. Well done to everybody who pulled on the jersey this year!
I’m off home next week. I’m really going to miss the madness and craic of European GAA. To those of you going back to Ireland, you’re job is to tell the people back home about the GAA scene here. Not enough people know about it. You can’t put a price on that sort of craic!
St Kilians is facing a huge decrease in numbers after this season. To the lads remaining in Wuerzburg; it s up to you to support Owen in keeping the club together. If ye really want to keep it going then ye’ve got to get stuck in…..There’s PRO, hurling officer, Team Manager etc up for grabs. I know sometimes it seems hopeless trying to get lads out training etc, but being present at tournaments ,particularly last Saturday one can see it is worth it!
I’d just like to thank everybody who has contributed to a great year’s GAA…….to the gang in NRW it’s been great playing with ye and drinking with ye. I’d like to thank Owen for all his hard work as chairman of St Kilians and his continuing endeavours to put the little parish on the map vis- a - vis Wuerzburg film festival. Now I’m sounding like David Brent……
All that’s left now is to go home and watch the video!..................as such
I’m off now to dig a whole in Bobby Ryan’s garden……….I’ll try and get an autograph for Paul, but you know what a bollix he can be!
