PRO's report for build-up for Munich 2003

St Kilians Wuerzburg Irish Sports Club - the pride of Unterfranken

St Kilians Wuerzburg e.V. was formed in April 2002 by JP McSherry and Eoin McGuire. The club played its first tournament in Munich in 2002 where we teamed up with a Frankfurt selection to make our first appearance on the European stage.

The next outing for Wuerzburg was the Hague Tournament in October 2002, where Wuerzburg/ Frankfurt won the round as the best Euro team!

Our first tournament this season was in Luxembourg where we teamed up with a Rennes selection , but disappointedly failed to make the playoff's. The Munich tournament is our opportunity to make amends and put ourselves back in the limelight.

Off the field St Kilians crowning moment was bringing Shane MacGowan and director Sarah Share to the German premiere of the "If I should fall from Grace" in Wuerzburg.

St Kilians are a truly international club. A few Irish form the backbone, but it is the members from the USA, Trinidad, and of course Germany which add to the cosmopolitan flavour of the setup. St Kilians promotes not only GAA in Germany but also irish culture; secretary Aimee Waha is hosting an Irish language workshop in Wuerzburg in October as part of a minority languages workshop; Micheal D. Higgins T.D. has lent his support to this cause.

Club member Micheal Hackett ( all-British champion 2001) holds regular Bodhrán workshops in Wuerzburg.

Since the beginning St Kilians has had regular articles in Tipperary Star, Clare Champion, local Irish radio stations and Wuerzburg papers Prima Sonntag, Mainpost and interviews ranging from Tipp FM to Bayern 1 and interviews with Gaelsports Ulster (big thanks to Declan Bogue) and Cois Coiribe ( NUIG graduate magazine).
