St Kilians Wuerzburg GAA Club

The pride of Unterfranken- www.stkilians.de

St Kilians Wuerzburg are delighted to be taking part in the Munich round of the European league. This is the clubs 3nd tournament of the season and our third season to be involved.

This year St Kilians has a new manager. I’ve stepped down to be replaced by Clemens Gruenewald. Clemens is a promising midfielder with great leadership potential.

Trevor Bradna (Chicago) is now in his second season with the club and is developing into a defender of the highest quality, as is Dan Houser( San Diego).Hurling officer is Niall Twomey(Cork), who has just come back from a second tour of duty in Iraq with the US armed forces.

Owen McGuire(Clare) continues as coach. Our secretary is Aimee Waha(Wuerzburg) and our treasurer is Ulf Fortagne( Berlin).

Our only two indigenous Wuerzburg players are Kalle Siefert and Hans Dieter Wolf. Another promising player is Lyndon Lyons originally from Trinidad/Tobago!

Tadgh Kelly (Carlow), while based in Stuttgart is a loyal Kilians member and will be playing in his second Munich tournament this year. For this tournament we also welcome the services of Niall Mac An tSionnaigh (Dublin) and Denis Kiely (Tipperary) who have flown in for the weekend.

Aubrey Dolan and his brother Justin (Sligo) will hopefully present to display their considerable skills!

The club is evolving into a cultural movement of our own. We have been associated with the Wuerzburg International Film Festival for a couple of years now. In 2003 they organized for the screening of the documentary " If I should fall from grace" and brought over it the director Sarah Share and the man himself Shane MacGowan.

This year, we proudly presented the highly acclaimed Irish film "Photos to Send" which won first prize. Owen states "It serves to heighten a very positive awareness of the Irish GAA in local community. We strongly encourage all Euro GAA clubs to also participate in their own cities established events, as a means of very effectively promoting their clubs"

Back in Ireland, I recently did an interview with Highball magazine for the June issue. The magazine is on sale all over Ireland

In May, our chairman Owen participated in the Munich-organised Referee Training Course. Much respected inter-provincial referee Gay McCabe flew from Dublin to Munich and provided courses over one weekend that will allow members to sit the Level 1 GAA refereeing Exam in July.

St Kilians began the season by participating in the Paris round in April, followed by the Luxembourg tournament in May. As always we teamed up with our colleagues from Duesseldorf -Nordrhein Westfalen Exiles.

We wish the organizers and participants of this year’s tournament in Munich all the best of luck.
