Würzburg International Film Festival ( in association with St Kilians e.V. ) exhibits: Bob Quinn's (Snr) film "Poitin". This award winning 1978 film the first feature film solely in the Irish language. It tells of an elderly poitín maker and his daughter who exact revenge on the two agents who cheat and then terrorise them. Its stars three of Ireland’s greatest actors, Niall Tobin and the late Cyril Cusack and Donal McCann, in their only appearance together on film. AND The award documentary "Cinegael Paradiso" was directed by Robert Quinn (Jnr). It outlines how his father moved to Conemara, in the West of Ireland, and managed to start an Irish Language Film Industry! It also gives insightful background into the making of the film "Poitin". Discussion / Questions about the Making of these films with director Bob Quinn's (Snr) will occur after each screening. AND John Boorman's Feature Film "Tiger's Tail" will also be screened. In this film identical twins are separated at birth. One, Liam, becomes a successful though over-stretched property developer in the new godless, greedy Ireland; the other, a homeless bum in Leeds. The have and the have-not. The film addresses the schisms created by sudden wealth in modern-day Ireland.

Würzburg International Film Festival ( in association with St Kilians e.V. ) exhibits: Vinny Cunningham's award nominated Irish documentary "No Go". Its a follow up documentary from 'Battle of the Bogside' which was screened here in Würzburg two years ago and deals with the aftermath of the conflict in Derry in 1969 when the British Army was deployed in Northern Ireland for the first time. AND The Cannes awarded documentary "Rocky Road to Dublin" and "Making of Rocky Road to Dublin" will also be screened at the Festival. A beautifully shot and prophetic look at how constrained Ireland was in 1968- so controversial was this Film that the Irish Film board had it banned!!..and it only with the past 2 years that it is once again being widely screened. Discussion / Questions about the Making of these films with directors Vinny Cunningham and Peter Lennon will occur after each screening. All Welcome!! |

Würzburg International Film Festival ( in association with St Kilians e.V. ) exhibits: John Mallon and David Darcys' award winning Irish language documentary "Idir Dha Shaol" about the plight and convalesence of an Irish Immigrant who through alcohol ended up homeless on the streets of London.
AND Emily Atef's award winning Film 'Mollys Way'. A pregnant Irish girl (Mairead McKinley) goes to an isolated town in Poland to find the coal mining father of her soon to be born child. She speaks no Polish but learns to survive and function in an unfriendly environment. Discussion / Questions about the Making of these films with directors John Mallon and David Darcys, Emily Atef and actress Mairead McKinley will occur after each screening. All Welcome!! |
